Your Subaru includes advanced safety features that protect you wherever the road takes you. These features, known as EyeSight, keep constant watch to protect you as you drive. Let’s take an in-depth look at some of these Subaru safety features and explain how they work.

Subaru Safety Features: EyeSight Driver Assist Technology

DriverFocus

On a long drive, particularly at night, it’s easy to get tired or distracted. Unfortunately, either of these conditions can result in an accident. This feature uses a mini infrared camera positioned inside your cabin. It monitors your eyes and head position and can identify signs of drowsiness or distraction. If it detects a problem, a warning beep sounds, and a warning to keep your eyes on the road appears on your screen.

Lane Change Assist

Blind spots have always been a potential driver hazard when changing lanes, but not anymore. This system uses sensors to monitor your blind spots and provide an instant warning if any vehicle enters one. You’ll hear a warning sound and an icon will appear on your screen to show which side the approaching vehicle is located so you can take action.

Advanced Headlights

Driving at night or in other low-visibility conditions is safer than ever. The Steering Responsive Headlights feature automatically turns the lights in the same direction as your steering wheel, giving you increased visibility when you need it most.

High Beam Assist uses sensors in your headlights to identify the lights of another vehicle headed in your direction. It automatically switches your high beams to low beams to prevent blinding the oncoming driver. Once the other vehicle has passed, it shifts back to high beams.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

When you reverse, specialized sensors watch the area directly behind you. If they identify movement, you’ll hear a beep and a warning icon appears on your screen. This alert gives you enough time to hit the brakes and avoid a collision.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning

A forward-facing camera scans the road for lane lines. Once the lines are identified, this feature focuses on keeping you inside your lane. If your wheels get close enough to the lines without you actively steering, a warning icon appears on your screen showing which line you’re about to cross. The system also supplies additional torque, allowing you to steer back to the lane center more easily.

Pre-Collision Braking

This system uses a camera and radar to identify any vehicle in front of you. If it detects a vehicle, it calculates the possibility of a collision based on vehicle speed. It provides visual and audible alerts if it anticipates an accident so you can take corrective action.
