Summer is a wonderful time of year to call Hillsboro, OR home. It is neither too hot nor too rainy outside, and the city offers a wide range of fun-filled activities that can be enjoyed. If you need ideas of how you can enjoy your kids being out of school, fuel up your 2023 Subaru Ascent and take your family to check out one of these great summer activities.

1. Visiting Orenco Woods Nature Park

One fun thing to do in Hillsboro is visit Orenco Woods Nature Park at 7100 Northeast Birch Street. This beautiful park features plenty to do, including hiking 1.6 miles of trails. There is also a fun nature play area that kids love. You can also picnic with your family in Orenco Woods at a covered picnic shelter. However, you must reserve it through the City of Hillsboro.

Orenco Woods Nature Park is also a great place to look for wildlife, including black-tailed deer and red-tailed hawks. Other animals that you may be able to spot include beavers and blue herons. This park is also a great place for biking, but part of Rock Creek Regional Trail and the nature trail traversing Rock Creek will be closed until October 2024 at the latest.

2. Catching a Game at Ron Tonkin Field

We also recommend spending a summer evening catching a game at Ron Tonkin Field at 4460 NE Century Blvd. Before the game, children between the ages of 3 and 12 can go on the field and get autographs from some of their favorite players. Also, kids who are 3 to 12 years old can run the bases after Saturday and Sunday home games.

If you plan to catch a game, we recommend arriving on an empty stomach. There are 11 vendors selling delicious food, including yakisoba, barbecue, and fried chicken. You can find most of these vendors in the 3rd Base Concourse, but there are three options in the 1st Base Concourse and Section 20.

3. Exploring Rood Bridge Park

We also love exploring Rood Bridge Park at 4000 SE Rood Bridge Rd over the summer. This park offers a wide range of amenities, including paved paths and biking trails. It is also a great place for boating, tennis, and picnicking.

The Ascent is a reliable car, but it requires regular maintenance to maintain its reliability. You should bring it in for an oil change from a certified Subaru technician every 7,500 miles, so it can take you down the road to fun activities for many summers to come. If it’s been a while since your last professional oil change, schedule an appointment with us today at Royal Moore Subaru
